Kelly meets with de Blasio, Lhota on terror

Following a blistering speech in which Ray Kelly took the mayoral candidates to task for ignoring terrorism, the city’s top cop today said he now how has the attention of the two front-runners.

“I will confirm that I met with de Blasio, that we had conversations on the issue. Talked to Mr. Lhota and we are scheduling a meeting,” Kelly said during a press conference at One Police Plaza. “Both of the final two candidates have engaged with us.”

Bill de Blasio won the democratic nomination with 40.88 percent of the vote compared to runner-up Bill Thompson’s 26.25 percent.

Joe Lhota got the Republican nod with 52 percent to John Catsimatidis 41 percent.

Last week, The Commish ripped the mayoral hopefuls in a speech to the Association for a Better New York, accusing them of not having a plan on how they would prevent another 9/11 attack while not trying to learn more about how the authorities would fight terror.

“The threat of terrorism is as great, if not greater, today than it was before the World Trade Center was destroyed,” he said, pointing to ominous developments in the Middle East, including the Syrian crisis.

“Yet I can tell you that none of the candidates has requested a briefing from the Police Department on this topic,” Kelly said.
