Three hurt in Washington Heights blaze

Three people were injured when a fire ripped through a Washington Heights apartment building, fire officials said.

The flames broke out on the fifth floor of a five story building on West 160th Street at around 7:20 a.m., pushing residents up onto the roof to escape the smoke, officials said.

One person suffered serious injuries and was taken to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.

Two other people suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene, officials said.
