Accused ‘Baby Hope’ killer told cops 4 different stories

He just can’t keep his stories straight.

Accused “Baby Hope” killer Conrado Juarez gave four different accounts of what happened the night the four-year-old was tragically raped and murdered 22 years ago before confessing, prosecutors said at his arraignment Thursday in Manhattan Supreme Court.

Jaurez, 52, first told cops that he was working that night and received a panicked phonecall from his sister asking for help.

When he got to the Astoria apartment he shared with his slain cousin Anjelica Castillo and several other family members, Juarez claims the cooler her body was later found in was already packed and closed.

He helped his sister take it uptown not knowing the girl was inside it, he told police.

In his next version, Juarez claimed he came home and found her dead body sprawled across the floor.

Next, Juarez told cops that he tried to rape her but was too drunk to complete the sick act, prosecutors said.

Finally, after an all night interrogation, Juarez copped to raping and smothering the child with a pillow before packing her into a filthy cooler and leaving her near the Henry Hudson Parkway.
Construction works found the girl’s body in July 1991 naked and bound wrapped in a plastic bag and disguised under soda cans in a cooler.

With few leads to go on, the disturbing case of “Baby Hope” baffled detectives for more than two decades before a tip led to an identification and Juarez’s eventual arrest.

Juarez wore a prison-issue orange jumpsuit and looked haggard and stooped over in his chair at his arraignment Thursday where he pleaded not guilty to second degree murder.

His attorney, Michael Croce, dismissed the confession as coerced.

“This interrogation conducted by the police was designed to elicit a confession and admission on the part of Mr. Juarez regardless of what the truth was,” he said of the 13-hour marathon grilling.
