WASHINGTON — With friends like these, Rep. Charlie Rangel may be bankrolling his re-election campaign on his own.
In the last 14 years, the Harlem Democrat has given a whopping $3.8 million to more than 500 of his House colleagues’ campaigns.
But since his censure by Congress in 2010, many Democrats aren’t willing to give back to the disgraced lawmaker.
Just five current House members have contributed to Rangel’s campaign, totaling a paltry $3,000.
Rangel, a 41-year veteran of Congress, is in a tough June 26 primary, facing two well-funded foes: state Sen. Adriano Espaillat, who represents Washington Heights and Inwood, and Clyde Williams, former aide to Presidents Obama and Clinton.
