One dead in Brooklyn house fire

A woman was killed Monday when a fire ripped through a house in Brooklyn officials said.

The blaze started around 1:30 p.m. in the basement of a two-story attached home on 57th Street near Ninth Avenue in Borough Park, an FDNY spokesman said.

The unidentified woman was pulled from the burning home, but could not be saved.

“Our units arrived within three minutes and [found] the condition to be a fire in the basement,” said Deputy Chief William Tanzosh.

“In that bedroom we did find one female who was passed away due to the fire.”

It took 60 firefighters around 45 minutes to extinguish the blaze, which was brought under control at 2:10 p.m., officials said.

“I just heard there was an accident on 57th Street and I come home and it’s my house,” said resident Jason Li. “Maybe 10, maybe more people live here.”
