Ed Reed goes from teacher to student at Jets practice

Newly acquired Jets safety Ed Reed spent much of the open portion of practicing following starting strong safety Dawan Landry around. Landry has spoken of how Reed helped him as a Ravens rookie. Now the mentee has become the mentor as he helps the 35-year-old future Hall of Famer get acclimated.

The truly important news from practice was cornerback Kyle Wilson was still wearing Reed’s preferred No. 20 while Reed was still relegated to an unfamiliar No. 22. Reed had said he hadn’t approached Wilson to try to negotiate for his number yet, but Wilson refused to discuss the matter Thursday.

“Nah, I’m not trying to talk about that with you guys,’’ Wilson said. “Not going to discuss that with you guys. I’m here for Buffalo.’’

Wideout Jeremy Kerley doesn’t appear to be making particularly swift progress in rehabbing his left elbow. After spending the open portion of Thursday’s practice pedaling on the stationary bike, Gang Green’s leading receiver was not visible at all during the part of practice the media was allowed to watch Friday.

Linebacker Garrett McIntyre, who has an injured knee, was on the bike again.

According to Buffalo media, Bills wide receivers Stevie Johnson and Robert Woods are both not practicing again Friday.
