Santonio Holmes sidelined again at Jets practice

Jets wideout Santonio Holmes wasn’t practicing during the positional drills, the portion of practice that was open to the media Thursday.

The veteran receiver didn’t practice at all on Wednesday, after making his return to the lineup Sunday in Buffalo. The blowout loss to the Bills was his first appearance in six weeks after missing time with foot and hamstring injuries.

Holmes, who has 12 catches for 314 yards and a touchdown in five games, would be a significant loss for the Jets. Though coach Rex Ryan claimed Wednesday that the veteran had not suffered what he would deem a setback, the denial did not engender a lot of confidence, especially in light of him saying he expected Holmes to be able to practice Thursday.

“No, it wasn’t really a setback. It’s just that today we thought it was best that he miss practice and heal up a little bit. But it wasn’t something that he had a major injury, let’s say,’’ Ryan said Wednesday. “So I expect him to practice tomorrow.’’

That didn’t happen.

Wideout Jeremy Kerley, who was limited Wednesday with an elbow injury, was out there Thursday, catching passes one-handed.
