Disgraced ex-Bronx Republican Party chairman Joseph “Jay” Savino voted in the Nov. 5 election — in suburban Rockland County, not in the city, The Post has learned.
It’s been an open secret that Savino resided in Rockland, not The Bronx. A property in Congers is listed under his wife’s name.
He had previously listed a Bronx apartment as his voting address, records show.
Savino’s surprise appearance at his Rockland polling place came a week before he copped a plea to federal corruption charges, admitting to accepting a $15,000 bribe in a scheme to let Democratic state Sen. Malcolm Smith run for mayor as a Republican.
According to the Rockland County Board of Elections, Savino recently applied to change his voting address through the Department of Motor Vehicles.
But Savino’s name wasn’t listed at his polling precinct. He then went to the Rockland County Board of Elections in New City to secure a ballot to vote .
Savino went before a judge , who issued a ruling providing him with an emergency ballot, said Rockland Elections Commissioner Louis Babbock.
“The judge let him vote. He got the court order and went out and voted,” Babcock said.
When Savino ran for state Senate in 2006, he was dogged by accusations that he really lived in Rockland, not The Bronx. At the time, he boasted that he was a lifelong Bronx resident.
“Unfortunately, Mr. Savino has lived in Rockland for eight years,” charged his then-Democratic opponent and current state Sen. Jeff Klein.
Savino then admitted that his kids attended school in Rockland.
Savino, who did not return a phone message for comment, is now cooperating with the feds in the ongoing corruption probe.
