Fan sends J.R. Smith $60 for ‘help’ winning video game bet

Well, at least the Knicks are winning somewhere.

J.R. Smith posted a picture on Instagram of a fan’s letter thanking the Knicks guard for helping him win a bet with a friend in the video game NBA 2K13. Oh yeah, and it included $60 – or half of the winnings from the bet, which was that Smith would outscore the entire Heat team in a game.

Most of the letter isn’t included in Smith’s photo, but it does include the postscript:

“Here’s $60. I know money ain’t a thing to you but my friend bet me $120 I couldn’t put up more points with you than his Heat on 2K13. Figure I split the pot with you since I made you look good. haha jk.”

It’s not much, but it’s better than Smith’s last newsworthy social media message. The enigmatic Knicks guard was fined $25,000 for a threatening tweet sent to Brandon Jennings after the Pistons guard insulted J.R.’s brother, Chris.
