Apple admits iPhone 5S battery problem

Apple has confirmed a battery problem affecting the recently launched iPhone 5S.

The New York Times Tuesday quotes Apple spokeswoman Teresa Brewer acknowledging the problem.

“We recently discovered a manufacturing issue affecting a very limited number of iPhone 5S devices that could cause the battery to take longer to charge or result in reduced battery life,” she said.

“We are reaching out to customers with affected phones and will provide them with a replacement phone.”

It is unknown how many phones the problem affects.

One of the biggest criticisms of the previous model, the iPhone 5, was to do with its low battery life.

The addition of a M7 chip in the iPhone 5S, which reduces power usage when not in use, and the new operating system means owners of the iPhone 5S can normally expect a better battery life.
