Snyder visits Goodell for meeting on Redskins name

Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder is in New York on Tuesday to give NFL commissioner Roger Goodell a briefing on the NFL franchise’s plans to address the controversy surrounding its nickname, according to a report by CSNWashington.

The meeting is preparation for a planned sitdown Wednesday between NFL officials and representatives of the New York-based Oneida Indian Nation, which has taken a lead role in advocating against the Redskins name. That meeting was moved up from a planned November date as the debate around the issue intensifies.

Snyder has previously made statements defending the nickname, but on Oct. 13, Goodell said Snyder was “way down the road” in considering a change.
