Time Warner Cable CEO Glenn Britt says his cancer is back

Time Warner Cable CEO Glenn Britt told employees on Tuesday that his cancer has returned but that he will work until his planned retirement at the end of the year.

Britt, 64, said he was notified by doctors a few weeks ago and is receiving treatment. He said he was having problems with his voice and went to the doctors to see what the cause was.

“Some of you may not know that I am a cancer survivor; I had a bout with melanoma five years ago and at that time, received a clean bill of health,” Britt said in the memo to staffers.

“Unfortunately, as is the case with many cancer patients, the cancer has recurred.”

Britt previously announced he would step down at the end of the year. Rob Marcus, the company’s chief operating officer, will become chairman and CEO.

“I am thankful that the transition to Rob was planned early, and was well underway before I got sick. The transition has been seamless so far and is nearly complete,” Britt said.

Time Warner Cable, the second-largest cable-TV provider, is set to report third-quarter earnings on Thursday.
