Designer finds an audience in Olivia Pope

New York-based fashion designer and “Scandal” fan Rubin Singer got an exciting call this summer.

The ABC series’ costume designer, Lyn Paolo, was looking for the perfect gown for Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) to wear in Thursday’s episode for a pivotal scene that takes place at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. And, after a lot of searching, Paolo chose Singer’s black-and-ecru stunner — which she found on the rack at a Neiman Marcus store.

“Lyn came into my studio just to meet me and say how excited she was about the gown and how Kerry was super excited about it because they’d been looking for it for awhile,” Singer tells The Post. “Lyn had seen the dress at Neiman’s, and she fell in love with it. It was really wonderful how it came about — it was very organic.” And no adjustments were necessary. “She’s a perfect size 2,” Singer says of the petite actress who is rumored to be pregnant with her first child.

(She married San Francisco 49ers cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha last summer.)

The glamorous evening gown is a different look for Olivia, who we usually see in smart pant suits.

“This is an evening look that fits perfectly with her character because it’s all about the precision and effortlessness that is throughout all of her wardrobe,” Singer says of the angular, silk crepe dress, which is paired with elbow-length black gloves. “I’m a huge fan of the show. I think it’s one of the coolest shows — especially for fashion — on television.”

The 35-year-old designer was in the spotlight earlier this year for designing Beyoncé’s sizzling Super Bowl half-time show bodysuit. And we may be seeing more of his designs on the fashion-forward drama. Singer says he is scheduled to meet with Washington for the first time in the next couple of weeks, “because they want to start doing more stuff with me.”
