Who in the world would hire Edward Snowden to protect social-network data?
Russia’s answer to Facebook, that’s who.
The renegade NSA secret spiller begins a new job Friday to “provide support” for Russia’s “largest Web site,” his lawyer, Anatoly Kucherena told Russian media.
Kucherena didn’t identify his employer, but Pavel Durov, head of a Facebook clone called VKontakte (In Touch), made a very public pitch to Snowden in August.
“We invite Edward to St. Petersburg and would be happy if he decides to join our stellar team of programmers,” Durov — known as the Russian Mark Zuckerberg — wrote on his personal Web page.
VKontakte is the social network favored by the Russian-speaking Boston Marathon bombers.
Meanwhile, a photo of a relaxed Snowden on a cruise boat on the Moscow River without his familiar glasses just appeared on the Russian site Life News.
