Saint Laurent creative director hates parody tees

Hedi Slimane may be trying to stop the presses on cheeky “Ain’t Laurent Without Yves” T-shirts (parodying the fact he dropped the founding designer’s first name from the storied label).

But the designer of the tees, Jeanine Heller, insists employees of the house initially adored the joke when the shirts debuted this fall. “They would like the photos of the T-shirts I put on Instagram.

They also posted a photo of someone wearing the T-shirt on the Instagram feed.

Now their whole profile has been deleted,” says Heller, claiming she even received orders from inside Saint Laurent. She’s perplexed by Slimane’s decision to cancel more than $100,000 in wholesale orders from Colette boutiques in Paris because they refused to drop the satirical tees from their shelves. (They’re also sold at Kitson in LA.)

After a rocky and controversial takeover as creative director for the line last year, Slimane received rave reviews for his recent shows. But it looks like there’s still trouble in Saint Laurent city — with a capital tee.
