9-year-old boy dead in Fort Greene crash

A 9-year-old boy was killed Saturday after he was pinned beneath an SUV that smashed into a building in Brooklyn, police said.

The victim’s 5-year-old brother, their mother, 47, and a 28-year-old woman were injured in the crash on Dekalb Avenue near Clermont Avenue in Fort Greene, according to reports.

“I heard the guy lost his brakes. He knocked the wall down and he hit two kids,” said Nick Vasilopoulos, 27, who works nearby.

“I heard a noise and I turned around and saw the car in the sidewalk. I ran over and saw two kids under the car wheel,” said a neighborhood resident who didn’t want give his name.

After the 12:45 p.m. incident, good Samaritans struggled to pry the children from beneath the car, witnesses said.

Rescuers managed to rescue one child fairly quickly. But a half-hour after the crash, they were still trying to rescue the other, Vasilopoulos said.

The 59-year-old male driver of the Ford Expedition remained at the scene. Police said the SUV jumped the curb after it struck another vehicle.
