GOP gives up sin-tax fight

WASHINGTON — Sin is in.

House Republicans have quietly dropped a provision that would prevent “sin” businesses from getting a new 20 percent tax cut — which means massage parlors, dog tracks and porn shops can take advantage of the perk.

The bill, by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, directs a new $46 billion tax deduction to businesses with fewer than 500 employees — which means almost every business in the country would qualify.

Republican leaders plan to bring it up for a high-profile vote on Tax Day, April 16.

“It’s unfair for someone to pick specific industries that they feel do not deserve a tax break,” said Karen Keelan, president of Yankee Greyhound Racing in Seabrook, NH.
