Ban con lobbyists: pol

ALBANY — A Bronx Democrat wants lobbyists convicted of felonies to be suspended for three to five years from plying their trade.

State Sen. Gustavo Rivera’s bill, introduced yesterday, follows the tax-evasion conviction of former state Sen. Nicholas Spano (R-Yonkers).

“If you’ve been convicted of a crime in which you violated the public trust, you shouldn’t be allowed to influence the making of laws,” said Rivera, who ousted an indicted Pedro Espada Jr., in a 2010 primary.

The bill would allow a state ethics panel to reinstate convicted lobbyists before five years.
