Bloomberg buys air time to push Cuomo’s pension reform

Mayor Bloomberg is entering the air war over pension reform.

In a speech this morning before business executives on Long Island, Bloomberg said his coalition of mayors and county executives pushing the pension reform package proposed by Gov. Cuomo is buying TV ads statewide — including in New York City — “urging New Yorkers to make their voices heard.”

BLOOMBERG SAYS OBAMA WILL BE ‘VERY HARD TO BEAT’

“Too often in Albany, it is only the special interests who are heard,” said the mayor.

“We want to make sure that the people are heard. We want legislators to know that every extra dollar we have to put toward pensions is a dollar we can’t invest in schools, public safety, job creation, roads and bridges and other critical infrastructure.”

Aides described the buy as “substantial,” without providing specific figures.

Municipal unions are already airing ads on TV and radio denouncing the governor’s reform package as regressive.

The Committee to Save New York, a business organization, is running ads backing Cuomo.
