Dellin Betances beans Tigers batter in scary brawl escalation

The most dangerous barb in a Yankees-Tigers game that devolved into brawling chaos Thursday came out of Dellin Betances’ right hand.

After the fighting had settled down from an inning prior, Betances threw a 98-mph, seventh-inning heater that found batter James McCann’s head. McCann was down for several moments before he rose, glaring at Betances, and the benches emptied again, this time with more jawing than upper-cutting.

Betances fervently argued the beanball — coming during a 6-6 game with no one on and no out out — was unintentional, but he and bench coach Rob Thomson were ejected.

They followed manager Joe Girardi, Tommy Kahnle and Austin Romine to be booted from the game on the Yankees’ side, after Kahnle had hit Miguel Cabrera, sparking a brawl.

Gary Sanchez, who appeared to throw punches, had been hit by a pitch earlier in the game.

Once the teams got back to actual baseball, the Tigers emerged victorious, 10-6.
