The London Underground’s new low

Even common courtesy isn’t safe from political correctness. The London Underground is ditching “ladies and gentlemen” for fear some might feel excluded.

Instead, its start-the-day announcement will be a dull, “Good morning, everyone.”

“We want everyone to feel welcome on our transport network. We have reviewed the language that we use in announcements and elsewhere and will make sure that it is fully inclusive,” said Mark Evers, director of customer strategy at Transport for London.

Bizarre: Even within the trans community only a tiny minority might take offense. It’s the land of the stiff upper lip, after all.

Sadly, this won’t even be the last retreat. Eventually, the Underground will wind up saying nothing at all, for fear of provoking outrage by being nice.

That, ladies and gents, is a shame.
