Mall installs ‘husband pods’ for men who don’t want to shop

Some men don’t mind shopping … said very few women ever. Most have a handy list of excuses — sorry, extremely valid reasons why now just isn’t quite the right time to go to the shopping center.

That present you need to buy? No interest.

New accessories to match your dress for a wedding? Would rather tinker with the car.

The new makeup you’d like to try out? Would prefer to watch the game.

So a Global Harbour mall in Shanghai, China, is testing a new pilot program for men. Imagine four glass pods where men can go to play video games while whoever has better things to do, shops.

The UK Telegraph has translated from state-run news site The Paper, which outlines details. Each “husband rest cabin” would have:

  • Chair
  • Monitor
  • Computer
  • Gamepod

According to the Telegraph, one shopper, Wu, said, “I do not like to accompany my girlfriend shopping, so whenever we go out shopping, I will look for a movie to see or find a place to eat and sit.”

He added, “Sometimes when my girlfriend is shopping, I play on my mobile phone, but now the mall has a machine, I can let my girlfriend feel at ease shopping.”

The major whine of feedback appears to be the lack of air conditioning.
