A pregnant nursing assistant lost her baby after being attacked by a patient who was trying to escape a Queens hospital, according to a lawsuit.
Simone Gooden, 29, worked for private staffing agency Horizon Health Care and was assigned to Elmhurst Hospital Medical Center last year when she encountered the crazed patient on an overnight shift.
“He was agitated, and he wanted to go,” she told The Post. “He started cursing and behaving erratically.”
Gooden, who was 14 weeks’ pregnant, followed as the 230-pound patient, who was more than six feet tall, started to walk to the main exit.
“I said to come back, and he said, ‘Leave me alone,’ ” she recalled.
He grabbed her, shoved her into a door frame and punched her visibly pregnant stomach, she claims in a Queens Supreme Court lawsuit.
The married Gooden, who has a 9-year-old son, felt pain in her abdomen after the assault, and began bleeding, she said. Within a week, her baby’s heart stopped beating, she said.
The hospital failed to investigate the incident, said her lawyer, A. Tommy Sgouras.
“They showed no concern. They didn’t make any attempt to protect her,” he said.
Gooden is seeking unspecified damages. The city said it will review the complaint.
