Yet another candidate for FBI director has taken his name out of the running.
Former FBI official Richard McFeely told the Trump administration he is not interested in being considered for the post, according to a report out of Washington.
McFeely had been among the top four candidates President Trump had been considering to take the place of fired FBI director James Comey, sources close to the hiring process told WJLA-TV.
He told the White House on Saturday he was bowing out, citing family considerations, the ABC affiliate reported.
Th at leaves three remaining candidates — former Sen. Joe Lieberman, a Democrat turned Independent, former Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating and acting FBI director Andrew McCabe.
Sen. Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) had also been considered top candidate for the gig before they took themselves out of the running.
Trump fired Comey on May 9, setting off a firestorm of criticism from Democrats. They believe Trump wants to quash an ongoing probe of Russian interference in this past November’s election.
