Pro-charter school CEO fired over ‘inappropriate behavior’ accusations

The CEO of one of the city’s most influential charter school advocacy groups has been fired after being accused of “inappropriate behavior” by a non-employee.

“Immediately upon receiving a complaint about inappropriate behavior toward a non-employee by Jeremiah Kittredge, Families for Excellent Schools retained outside counsel to conduct an independent investigation,” the group said in a Wednesday afternoon statement. “As a result of this investigation and additional factors, Jeremiah has been terminated as CEO.”

The charter-boosting organization has long been a ferocious critic of Mayor de Blasio with Kittredge serving as its public face at countless rallies and protests.

FES also staffs a research team that regularly issues reports critical of de Blasio’s stewardship of city schools.

Kate Rhodes, the attorney retained by FES to probe the allegations against Kittredge, declined to comment Wednesday.
