This pup is looking tar-rific!
A man was walking by a barn in Yazoo County, Mississippi, last week when he discovered a tiny puppy glued to the ground in a pool of tar that was leaking out of a storage container, according to reports.
As the puppy yelped for help, Mike Frazier called FLY Animal Rescue and rescuers quickly arrived.
“He was embedded in tar, it was up under the center of that tar tank,” Frazier told WLOX. “And it was caked in tar about 2 to 3 inches thick.”
Members of the organization and good Samaritans were able to free the poor pup, but their work to save him was just beginning.
The stray dog was taken to the Animal Medical Center, where he was sedated and covered in coconut oil, WLOX reported.
Fly Animal Rescue posted updates to their Facebook page with photos of the dog, nicknamed Warrior, as they slowly cleaned off the tar. “It’s tedious and we can only do it while he is sedated. He will be mostly bald once its all removed.”
Finally, after several days, and despite being less fluffy than before, Warrior was happy, healthy and tar-free.
The pup should have no problem finding a forever home as the adorable yellow pooch has received an outpouring of love from potential adopters.
“If everyone would please stop calling the Yazoo City Animal Hospital looking to adopt Warrior, I and the staff would appreciate it,” FLY Animal Rescue posted to Facebook. “He is not available at this time for adoption. When he is available I will post him and then be accepting applications. I am grateful for the outpouring of love received for this little guy.”
The manager of the barn where Warrior was found has been told by state environmental officials to clean up the spill and properly dispose of the tar, WLOX reported.
The rescuers posted an adorable photo of the naked pup napping peacefully with the hashtag “He deserves the best.”
