Teen promotes Black Lives Matter with her prom dress

A Florida teen found a way to use her prom dress to bring awareness to the Black Lives Matter movement.

Milan Bolden-Morris, 17, stepped out to the Pahokee High School prom Friday in a gown that featured pictures of African Americans killed in police-involved incidents, including Trayvon Martin, Sandra Bland and Michael Brown.

The teen made waves with the black and gray dress after she posted photos on Instagram from the prom in Pahokee, Florida.

“Yes I’m black. Yes I’m 17. Yes GOD is using me to convey a message that’s bigger than me,” she wrote on Instagram.

The long, flowing number was designed by Terrence Torrence, who said that he created the dress because he wanted to “put a story out there through my fashion.”

“I wanted to show we could spread out message with not just posters and fliers but also with garments,” the Florida-based designer told CNN.

Bolden-Morris told news station WPTV that she received an overwhelming positive response on social media, and even got a call from Trayvon Martin’s mom thanking her.

“All of this was with good intentions,” she said. “[I] wanted to convey this message and I was proud and blessed to be able to do that.”
