De Blasio skips town to cheer for the Red Sox

Mayor Bill de Blasio struck out with Big Apple baseball fans Sunday as he rooted for his favorite team, the Boston Red Sox, during a spring-training game in Florida.

Hizzoner — fresh off being cleared of criminal charges in the city’s pay-to-play scandal — chatted up fellow Sox fans and basked in the sunshine as he and wife Chirlane McCray enjoyed a front-row view of the game above the Sox dugout.

The mayor professes an allegiance to the Mets, too, but the orange shirt he wore to the game wasn’t for the New York team. Instead, it advertised his wife’s ThriveNYC mental health initiative.

The Sox ended up folding to the Minnesota Twins 13-8 at the Fort Myers field.

De Blasio, who grew up in Cambridge, Mass., took off for Florida on Friday purely to watch the Sox, City Hall said.
