If you don’t have anything nice to say, you could make $900 a day

A Midtown heckler claims he makes up to $900 per day shaming shoes, then shining them.

Don Ward — whose stand is prominently perched at 47th Street and Sixth Avenue in Manhattan — jokingly chides passersby when their hooves aren’t up to par.

“How do you catch fish? You’ve gotta use good bait,” Ward told The Post.

“A lot of people walk by and they’re in their own little bubble. I tell jokes,” said Ward, adding that he’s always looking for the dirtiest pair of shoes he can find.

Ward, who once worked at a photo lab, first decided to go into the shoeshine business when one of his former colleagues made more money in one day polishing than he did all week at the photo job. Ward has been shining shoes and cracking jokes ever since.

Ward explained that his job also affords him independence.

“I don’t have no incompetent boss giving me orders. I have no backstabbing co-workers trying to get brownie points. I’m free, ” Ward told The Post.
