Flynn lawyers cut ties with Trump legal team amid investigation

Lawyers for former national security adviser Michael Flynn told President Trump’s attorneys they can no longer discuss the special counsel’s investigation into Russian election meddling — a sign that Flynn may be working with prosecutors, according to a report Thursday.

Flynn’s legal team had been sharing information with the president’s lawyers about Robert Mueller’s probe into whether the Trump campaign coordinated with the Russian government to interfere with the 2016 presidential election, the New York Times reported.

But Flynn’s lawyers cut ties with Trump’s attorneys, ending the information-sharing agreement, the paper reported, citing four people involved in the case.

Defense lawyers often share info during investigations but the practice is unethical when one client is cooperating with prosecutors and another is still being probed, the paper reported.

Mueller is investigating a private meeting among Flynn, a Russian ambassador and Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law, early in Trump’s presidency.

A deal with Flynn would give Mueller a peek at the campaign during its early weeks — potentially exposing Trump or his campaign associates.

Earlier this month, NBC reported Mueller had gathered enough evidence to charge Flynn and his son as part of the investigation into Russian election interference.

Trump fired Flynn in February after just 24 days on the job when news reports revealed he had communicated with a top Russian ambassador during the transition and lied about it.
