Steve Bannon: Trump’s war with the media will only get worse

Top White House adviser Steve Bannon again slammed the media on Thursday, and warned that coverage of President Trump is only going to get worse as the administration continues taking bold action to keep its promises.

“It’s not going to get better, it’s going to get worse. They are adamantly opposed. Adamantly opposed to [the] economic nationalist agenda like Donald Trump has,” said Bannon, who last month told the media to “keep its mouth shut.”

He was appearing Thursday with White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Maryland.

“It’s going to get worse because he’s going to continue to press his agenda, and as economic conditions get better and jobs get better, they’re going to fight. If you think they’re going to give the country back without a fight, you are sadly mistaken. Every day, every day is going to be a fight,” Bannon said, adding that Trump is “maniacally focused” on his agenda.

“Every day, he tells Reince and I, ‘I promised this to the American people and I’m going to deliver on this,’ ” Bannon said in a rare public appearance.

Speaking to a friendly crowd, Bannon and Priebus also took pains to present themselves as happy warriors working to enact Trump’s agenda — repudiating leaks that they’re battling.

“Just like in the chaos of the transition, they’re dead wrong in what’s going on,” Bannon said, again calling the media “the opposition party.”

The pair also boasted of the administration’s accomplishments so far, including the nomination of a Supreme Court justice, relaxing regulations on business, and working on health care, immigration and tax reform.
