Obama is raising money for Democratic Party

Barack Obama hasn’t finished raising money for Democrats.

In an emailed money pitch to supporters before his farewell address Tuesday night in Chicago, the president asks for donations “to send an important message” about the strength of the Democratic Party.

“We have some legislative battles to fight in the months ahead and, sooner than you might realize, it’ll be time to prepare for some tough elections next year. And the cynics are at it again, saying that our values have been defeated and that Democrats aren’t fired up,” Obama writes in the pitch, which was sent out Monday night.

“We need your help to prove them wrong once more — and to send an important message about how ready our party is for the weeks, months, and years to come,” he says.

The most powerful man in the world added: “Chip in $3 or more, and let’s show everyone that we’re ready to keep fighting.”

The note was sent via Democratic Party email.

The pitch signals that while Obama will be leaving the White House on Jan. 20, when President-elect Trump is inaugurated, he’ll likely remain involved in partisan politics for years to come.
