One dead, 2 injured after ‘drunk’ driver crashes into construction vehicle

A drunken driver was arrested after crashing his SUV into a construction vehicle parked along a Bronx highway, killing one of his passengers and injuring two others, police said.

Jorge Viteri, 30, was behind the wheel of a 2011 Nissan when he slammed into an unoccupied backhoe at a construction site near Exit 7C of the Bruckner Expressway in the Country Club neighborhood around 6:50 p.m. Sunday.

A 30-year-old back seat passenger identified as Abe Prior of Norwalk, Conn., died at Jacobi Medical Center.

Two women, aged 32 and 29, were treated at the same hospital for minor injuries.

Viteri, who was not seriously injured, was charged with vehicular manslaughter, assault, driving while intoxicated and refusing to take a Breathalyzer test, police said.
