Target to open a store in Hell’s Kitchen

Target is going to Hell’s Kitchen.

The discount chain has signed a lease to open a store in the base of the new residential condominium being built at 615 Tenth Ave. on the entire western blockfront between West 44th and 45th streets.

The flexible-format store is expected to open in its new 29,000-square-foot home by the summer of 2019.

The store will occupy the ground floor of a seven-story condominium that is the second for Chinese developer XIN Development International, the US subsidiary of XINYUAN Real Estate Ltd., which also created the Oosten in Williamsburg.

The retailer’s flexible format will be similar to its new Tribeca store with goods designed to appeal to the neighborhood.

The Hell’s Kitchen store, located across from Beacon High School, will have men’s and women’s apparel and accessories; apartment-size home items; a grocery area with grab-and-go food items like salads and sandwiches; personal care and beauty items; and portable technology along with its Target Mobile and Order Pickup services.

Target already operates 30 flexible-format stores, with 23 more announced for 2017, 2018 and 2019, including one in Brooklyn and another in the East Village.

“We’re pleased to be part of this terrific residential development near Times Square and the Theater District, and we look forward to serving more guests in Manhattan with this new store,” Mark Schindele, Target’s senior vice president, properties, said in a statement.

Peter Ripka, Richard Skulnik and Jeffrey Howard of Ripco Real Estate represented Target in the transaction, while Brandon Eisenman and Thomas Cholnoky from RKF represented XIN.

The asking rent was not disclosed.
