Heartbroken parents bury baby who fell down elevator shaft

The devastated parents of a 6-week-old Brooklyn girl killed in an accidental plunge down an empty elevator shaft have buried the baby, friends said Saturday.

Areej Ali was laid to rest in a Muslim cemetery in New Jersey on Friday.

Her mother, Aber Al-Rahabi, 21, was seriously hurt in the Thursday fall, in which she called the elevator to the 23rd floor of the Coney Island apartment building, only to end up plummeting several feet as the doors opened onto empty space.

“Yesterday, she fainted five or six times,” a friend said Saturday of Al-Rahabi. “At the graveyard, at the mosque. The father is not good. It’s painful. First kid,” said the friend.

The parents were childhood pals, and Al-Rahabi’s mother has long lived at the Neptune Avenue apartment complex.

“The grandmother of the child [is] in bad shape,” another friend said.
