Deadly accident throws passengers from ride at Ohio State Fair

One person was dead and seven seriously injured Wednesday after they were flung from a broken carnival ride at the Ohio State Fair, reports said.

The Columbus fire department said there was a malfunction at the fair and some of the victims were reported to have been thrown from the spinning ride, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

A video posted on YouTube appears to show a piece of the “Fireball” become unmoored, sending the passengers into the air.

The Ohio State Fair issued a statement on Twitter.

“There has been a report of a ride incident. We are investigating and will report information as available,” the tweet read.

Ohio governor John Kasich expressed his sadness about the incident Wednesday night and said that all rides would be shut down.

“Our thought and prayers go out to those grieving and injured,” read a statement from Kasich.

“I have ordered a full investigation into this incident and have ordered that all fair rides be shut down until additional safety inspections can be completed.”

The director of agriculture said that all of the rides at the fair are checked several times when they are being set up.

He also said the Fireball passed its inspections
