Teen commits suicide by jumping in front of subway

A 16-year-old boy on his way to school committed suicide by jumping in front of a subway train in Midtown on Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The unidentified teen threw himself in front of a southbound A train as it was pulling into the 42nd St.- Port Authority station just before 8 a.m., authorities said.

“He had books [and a backpack] with him,” said Inspector Thomas Ponella, who was overseeing the investigation taking place at the station.

“It’s very said,” he continued. “There were several witnesses, they were pretty shaken up.”

The boy jumped from a platform loaded with commuters headed to work during Tuesday’s morning rush.

“You hear all the time about people jumping in front of trains, but … Oh God! … This was just a kid! A teenager!” said a woman who declined to give her name.

A police source added: “This was a teenager, a high school-age kid … There are going to be a lot of questions on this one.”
