A pair of South Florida natives – named Eduardo Rivero and Emilio Macias – were identified as the pals of baseball superstar Jose Fernandez, who were killed alongside him Sunday when their boat crashed off Miami Beach, officials said.

Rivero worked for Wells Fargo Advisors while Macias was employed by Carnival Cruise Line, the Miami Herald reported.

“It’s terrible, terrible,” sister Nicole Rivero told WSVN in Miami. “I don’t know how to deal with it. Don’t know. My mom is a mess. She doesn’t know what to do.”

The deaths of Rivero and Macias were recorded at 3:15 a.m. Sunday, the same as Fernandez, Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner records showed.

Rivero and Macias were 2009 and 2008 graduates, respectively, of G. Holmes Braddock High School in Miami, according to the school’s alumni group.

Major League Baseball cancelled the Marlins game on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves. The grieving baseball team is set to take the field again Monday night in Miami against the Mets.
