Gary Johnson has another ‘Aleppo moment’

Presidential hopeful Gary Johnson was the first to admit Wednesday he was having another “Aleppo moment” at a MSNBC-hosted town hall in Durham, New Hampshire.

Host Chris Matthews asked Johnson to name his favorite foreign leader, but the question was met with a blank stare.

“In any of one of the continents in any country, name one foreign leader,” Matthews said, even prompting Johnson with a list of countries to help jog his memory.

“I guess I’m having an Aleppo moment in the [name of] former president of Mexico,” Johnson said. Matthews asked the former New Mexico governor to clarify which Mexican president, but Johnson was still at a loss.

“What is Aleppo?” made waves through the Internet earlier in the month when the Libertarian candidate was unable to answer a question on MSNBC about the ongoing crisis in Aleppo, Syria.

“Name anybody in the world you like,” Matthews continued on Wednesday.

Eventually, Johnson was able to move on after his running mate, Gov. William Weld, coughed up the name of German chancellor Angela Merkel.

Merkel is a person who resides on planet Earth, so an exasperated Matthews allowed the candidate to proceed onto the next round.
