Hillary tries to show funny side after taking vicious Trump barbs

Hillary Clinton responded to Donald Trump’s vicious roast of her at the Al Smith dinner by mocking the mogul for being anti-democratic, a misogynist and perhaps not a true billionaire.

“It’s amazing that I’m up here after Donald. I didn’t think he’d be OK with a peaceful transition of power,” Clinton said, needling Trump for saying he’s unsure whether he’ll accept the results of the presidential election.

“Donald looks at the Statue of Liberty and sees a 4,” Clinton said, “maybe a 5 if she loses the torch.”

Speaking of former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Clinton said, “It’s a shame he’s not speaking tonight, I’m curious to hear what a billionaire has to say,” suggesting that Trump is not worth the $10 billion he claims.

Clinton also made light of Trump’s suggestions that she’s not physically healthy enough to be president.

“He actually sent a car to bring me here tonight, actually it was a hearse,” she said.

“Donald really is as healthy as a horse, you know — the one Vladimir Putin rides around on,” she added.

Clinton even made a few self-deprecating jokes — the usual fare for this kind of charity dinner, held annually at the Waldorf.

“It did take a village to write these jokes,” she said.

“I’m not boring at all. I’m the life of every party. And I’ve been to three!”

“I took a break from my rigorous nap schedule to be here,” she added.

She didn’t neglect local politics, saying Cardinal Timothy Dolan had convinced “mortal enemies” and “bitter foes” to share the same stage.

With the clear implication being that she and Trump were willing to put differences aside for charity, Clinton then added:

“I’ve got to ask, how did you get the governor and mayor here tonight?”

“I think we should nominate Cardinal Dolan for the Nobel Peace Prize,” Al Smith IV joked at the conclusion of remarks by both Trump and Clinton.
