A lot of people will be dressed as creepy clowns this Halloween

Crowds of creepy clowns are coming to your town this Halloween.

Costume retailers are selling out of their clown stock well before the popular fall holiday, as fun seekers storm e-tail and brick-and-mortar locations, executives told The Post on Thursday.

The sales are spiking in line with the rise in creepy clown sightings the past few months across the country.

The most popular clown costumes, according to an informal poll of retailers, are Pennywise, from Stephen King’s “It” and “Twisty” from “American Horror Story: Freak Show.”

Over the past few months, children and adults have been scared enough to report the incidents to the police, including on Thursday when a knife-wielding clown chased a teenager through a New York City subway.

The clown fascination is now turning into retail gold.

“We expect to run out of [clown costumes] earlier than usual this year,”said Sharon Laurent, owner of Nightmarefactory.com, who noted that she had already sold out of 15 percent of her clown inventory.

At HalloweenCostumes.com, searches for clown costumes on are up 50 percent and sales of scary clown costumes are up 40 percent from a year ago, according to chief marketing officer Mark Bietz.

The Minnesota-based site is on the verge of selling out of its $50 Men’s Killer Clown costume, Bietz added.

The five states generating the most clown searches are Texas, California, Utah, Illinois and New York, he said.

Spirit Halloween, the largest Halloween retailer, declined to comment on clown costumes “because there are ongoing police investigations,” a spokeswoman said.

Similar caution was voiced by a clerk at Abracadabra on West 21st Street in Manhattan.

“Some people take a joke too far and don’t know when to stop,” said the clerk “People are getting crazy.”
