An emissary of Manhattan Democratic leader Keith Wright is sending out feelers about a possible Wright run for mayor in 2017, The Post has learned.
“I can confirm that Charlie King called me. He asked whether we [the Brooklyn Democratic Party Committee] would support Keith’s Wright’s potential bid for mayor.,” Brooklyn Party law chairman Frank Carone said.
Carone said Wright has been a “terrific” assemblyman and county leader but stressed that the Brooklyn Democratic Party would stick with de Blasio.
Wright narrowly lost a primary race for Rep. Charles Rangel’s congressional seat and will not be returning to the Assembly in 2017.
De Blasio’s campaign said the mayor was ready for a challenge from Wright or anyone else.
“Under Mayor de Blasio, crime just hit another all-time low, jobs are at record highs, the city is building and preserving affordable housing at a record pace, while graduation rates and test scores continue to improve. We are happy to match that record against anyone,” said de Blasio campaign spokesman Dan Levitan.
