Fitness blogger proves that weight is a meaningless number

You work your ass off at the gym and in the kitchen, but when you step on the scale, sometimes all you can think is seriously?!

Well, fitness blogger Kelsey Wells posted a picture to Instagram yesterday that basically gives fit women everywhere yet another reason to flip the bird to the scale. The mashup of three photos is in chronological order: one of her at 145 pounds after having her son, one when she reached 122 pounds, and a current photo of her at 140 pounds.

As anyone can see, she looks amaaaazing in that third photo. And she feels as great as she looks. In the Instagram post, she writes, “I have never had more muscle and less body fat than I do now. I have never been healthier than I am now. I have never been more comfortable in my own skin than I am now.”

Her point? She wants to show other women out there that the scale means nothing when you’re working toward a healthier and fitter body and lifestyle.

Two months after giving birth to her son, Kelsey started Kayla Itsines’ fitness program with a goal of weighing 122 pounds to fit into her smallest pair of skinny jeans. But after reaching that weight, she went on to gain 18 pounds — of muscle.

She explains in the caption: “I have gone up two pant sizes and as a matter of fact I ripped those skinny jeans wide open just the other week trying to pull them up over my knees. My point?? According to my old self and flawed standards, I would be failing miserably. THANK GOODNESS I finally learned to start measuring my progress by things that matter — strength, ability, endurance, health, and HAPPINESS.”

And isn’t that what fitness is all about, anyway? Kelsey’s not the only one inspired by Kayla’s workouts — more feel-good stories, here and here!
