Bernie Sanders called for the resignation on Sunday of Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who has been banished from the podium at the party’s convention in the wake of the leak of 20,000 DNC emails.
Some emails show that DNC actively worked to undermine Sanders by planting stories, belittling his campaign and even questioning his faith.
Sanders told CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday the emails are “outrageous, but not a great shock,” noting he’s been saying for six months the DNC was actively working to elect Hillary Clinton instead of being a neutral party.
Sanders renewed the call for Wasserman Schultz’s resignation.
“I don’t think she’s qualified to be chair of the DNC,” he said.
“Many months ago I made it clear that Debbie Wasserman Schultz should resign, should step down.”
One the eve of the Democratic convention, the leaks threaten disunity at the carefully crafted convention that kicks off in Philadelphia.
Sanders delegates are also fuming over the pick Sen. Tim Kaine as running mate, a safe choice.
Donald Trump continues to goad Sanders supporters over the “rigged” system.
His son piled on Sunday saying if his father’s campaign were questioning someone’s religion, “They’d be calling for people to get the electric chair,” Donald Trump Jr. said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
Clinton’s campaign is distancing itself for the DNC and Wasserman Schultz.
“I’ll leave it to the DNC campaign to explain that,” spokeswoman Karen Finney told Fox’s Sunday Morning Futures.
“We believe there was a fair process,” Finney said of Clinton winning the primary contests. “… Hillary Clinton did win fair and square.”
