East Coast braces for another ‘bombogenesis’ storm

Old Man Winter isn’t done yet.

A nor’easter is targeting the Big Apple and East Coast for Friday — bringing with it a nasty mixture of heavy rain, snow, powerful winds, and possible major flooding in the second “bombogenesis” of the year, forecasters said.

About 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected in the city by late afternoon, along with wind gusts of up to 60 mph as the storm rapidly intensifies — much like the last bomb cyclone in early January, forecasts show.

“The wind is a great concern,” Accuweather senior meteorologist John Feerick told The Post. “The wind pushing the water in from the ocean can cause moderate to major coastal flooding.”

An estimated 1 to 2 inches of rainfall is also expected in the five boroughs and temps are predicted to dip into the mid-30s by Friday afternoon.

“There is a concern for power outages with gusts of 50 to 60 mph and anything you have outdoors should be tied down,” Feerick warned.

Areas north of the Big Apple like Westchester and Rockland counties as well as parts of northern New Jersey are expected to be hit with 3 to 6 inches of snow, forecasts show.

Snowfall of 1 to 2 feet is expected across regions of western New York into the Catskills, according to forecasts.

According to Feerick, it will still be windy on Saturday, “but the storm should be gone as far as rain.”
