The body of a Virginia teen who vanished following a mysterious text two weeks ago was found, authorities said.
Police confirmed that a body discovered Friday in a Herdon park was identified as 16-year-old Jholie Moussa, WRC-TV reported.
Moussa was reported missing Jan. 12 after she abruptly left her home to go to a park in Norfolk, which is nearly 200 miles away from her Alexandria home.
“She was doing my hair and then she stopped, for a good minute, to text some more,” her twin sister, Zhane, told WRC-TV. “Then, out of nowhere, she was like, ‘I gotta go, I gotta go!'”
Her sister said she received a puzzling message from the teen following her departure.
“She texted me that she was going to Norfolk,” Zhane said. “And I’m, like, isn’t that more than 3 hours away?”
The text was the last time she heard from her twin sister before her body was found covered with leaves Friday morning in Woodlawn Park, according to WRC-TV.
Authorities said they are investigating the 16-year-old’s death as a homicide.
Anyone with information about her death is asked to call Fairfax County police at 703-691-2131.
