Cab driver shot in robbery is clinging to life

A tough-as-nails cabbie is clinging to life after a passenger shot him seven times during a robbery early Saturday in The Bronx, police said.

Jeffrey Cisnero Camacho, 26, picked up the street-hail fare near the corner of Boston Road and Fish Avenue in Williamsbridge around 12:45 a.m.

When they reached their destination on Morrison Avenue near East 172nd Street in Soundview, the man pulled out a gun, announced a stick-up, and unloaded his weapon on Camacho, cops said.

The married father of three young daughters was shot in the abdomen and leg before his attacker ran off with the driver’s wallet and $23 in cash, authorities said. He was able to call 911 for help.

First responders rushed Camacho to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was listed in critical but stable condition after undergoing surgery, said Fernando Mateo of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers.

He’d been driving for different cab companies, including Uber, for about a year. Mateo’s group is offering a $1,000 reward for information on the shooter, who remains at large.

It’s not the first time Camacho, who hails from the Dominican Republic, had trouble on the job, Mateo said.

Camacho had been robbed at knifepoint once before but was uninjured.

“He didn’t even report it. He was shaken up and just went home,” Mateo said.

The shooter remains at large, and investigators were canvassing the scene of the crime Saturday morning for surveillance footage of or witnesses to the attack.
