Father of kids murdered by mother has heartbreaking message for parents

A Texas father whose children were murdered on his birthday by their own mother says he was sure to say he loved them every single day.

At the memorial service held for Taylor Sheats, 22, and Madison Sheats, 17, at Shelton Funeral Home in Decatur, Ala., on Saturday, father Jason Sheats said the family rule was that the girls could not leave the house without saying, “I love you.”

“He said, ‘If you have loved ones, tell them you love them every day and give them a hug because you never know it might be your last day.’ He said one thing with his children he knows he has peace with, is that he loved his kids. His kids knew that he loved them, and his kids loved him. And he showed them and kissed them and loved him every day. That shows a lot,’” Jason’s former classmate Marsha Hill told WAFF of Jason’s heartbreaking eulogy.

Both girls were buried at Limestone Memorial Gardens on Saturday.

Jason is the sole survivor in a horrific family killing intended by his wife Christy to “punish him” for an argument they were having.

When Christy called a “family meeting” with her daughters on June 24, Jason thought she was going to discuss the decision to divorce. He was wrong.

Christy, who had a history of mental illness, was fatally shot by sheriff’s deputies after she opened fire on her two daughters before Jason’s eyes.

Jason told police his wife had used her grandfather’s .38-caliber handgun to kill their two children, just days shy of Taylor’s wedding day.
