Trump channels the Wizard of Oz at the RNC

Donald Trump beamed in on a jumbotron Tuesday night to tell Republicans in Cleveland that he’s proud to be their nominee for president.

The businessman-turned-politician, who spoke from Trump Tower in New York, also praised his running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, saying he’ll make a “great, great vice president.”

Twitter was quick to poke fun at Trump, with some users likening his appearance to that of the Wizard of Oz.

Trump’s appearance also played right into an earlier attack by Hillary Clinton.

His Democratic opponent had likened his entrance on the convention’s opening night to the titular character in the L. Frank Baum classic.

There was “lots of sound and fury, even a fog machine,” Clinton said. But “when you pulled back the curtain, it was just Donald Trump with nothing to offer the American people,” she said, according to the Chicago Tribune.
