The East End’s biggest summer food festival gets super-sized

The East End’s biggest food event is getting super-sized this summer, Side Dish has learned.

Marc Murphy

Dan’s Taste of Summer on Long Island will span three weekends with the newest addition a chic beach clambake hosted by chef Marc Murphy. The event, Dan’s ClambakeMTK, will be held on July 30 at Gurney’s Montauk.

The festival heats up with Dan’s GrillHampton on July 8, which pits a team of New York City chefs against East End colleagues.

All-star additions to competition include one of the world’s most famed chefs, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, who for the first time will have his own restaurant in the Hamptons, at Topping Rose House.

Alex Guarnaschelli

That is followed on July 9 by the sixth annual Dan’s Taste of Two Forks, presented by Farrell Building Co. and hosted by TV personality Alex Guarnaschelli.

Both events grew out of their old space and for the first time will be held at Fairview Farm in Bridgehampton.

“Nothing like this has ever been done in the Hamptons,” said organizer Donny Evans. “The restaurants have improved dramatically. There is a real food and wine culture out here now and these events showcase it all.”

Rounding out the festival will be Dan’s Harvest East End on August 20th.

East Village burger joint Whitman’s is heading to the High Line.

It has signed a lease to open at Related’s Abington House, a luxury rental condo at 500 West 30th St. in West Chelsea. The 1,766 square-foot space is slated to open this fall.

This will be Whitman’s’ third eatery, following the opening of its outpost in City Kitchen, the Times Square Food Hall. Winick Realty Group’s Ross Burack repped both parties.
